Why the Pairing?

From the start of the series Death Note there wasn't much of a connection between Matsuda and Sayu for the reason that Sayu was still a little girl. As time went by Sayu grew to being a fine young woman and Matsuda could not help but to admire her beauty. From that moment, it seemed like they were truly meant to be.
